SUPER-COP BUSTS 3 TERRORISTS A DAY ON US/CANADA BORDER.
A Canadian couple crossing the US border to go shopping at a Niagara Falls outlet mall is intimidated, interrogated & jailed by the Border Patrol for terrorism. They are harassed and questioned, told lies and thrown in a jail cell. They are asked which individual stores they were going to, and also stated they had the power to ask the address of where they were headed, so Police could call ahead and confirm they were expected. The Cops EVEN CLAIM they don't need any grounds for their actions. THE COUPLE ALSO RECORDED THE ENTIRE ENCOUNTER.

I feel my heart pounding at a rapid rate, and I think my blood pressure is going through the roof on hearing the audio portion of this video.
The one act the U.S. officers clearly did wrong was accusing the young Canadian man at the border of uttering threats. There was no evidence for that, although the burden of proof in today’s climate would be on the accused. A conviction of threatening a U.S. law enforcement officer, as wrongful as it could be, could get one years behind bars, since it’s apparently a felony there.
However, the U.S. Border "officers" "don't need any grounds for their actions", and never did so, even before 9-11; it's a random check, just as the more senior U.S. second officer implied. Similarly, the Canadian Border Service officers "don't need any grounds for their actions" when one enters Canada, whether or not one is Canadian. It's in the law in both countries. But the American agents do ask more detailed questions now after 9-11, and Canadian officers can do the same. It's just that the Canadian ones are more likely to be more considerate of one's circumstances, though they don't have to be. It is a police state now at the border on both sides, and when a border officer gives a lawful command, it's to be obeyed, or one could be charged with obstruction of justice, just as the American officer stated. I’m just giving the facts, but that said, I disdain this police-state situation.
The young fellow was obstreperous in his manner, and this ticks off U.S. border cops to no end. It’s obvious to me, though, that the young man was very upset indeed, and he acted more out of a sense of panic, though the first American officer didn’t seem to perceive that. Since 9-11, American border officers in particular have become very authoritarian in manner, and demanding of courtesy and obedience from those who are not in law enforcement, particularly from non-Americans. The latter are regarded by right-wing “conservative” U.S. society and law enforcement folks as guests in their country who are to be polite and humble in demeanour, with very few real rights indeed. American society, moving rapidly right-ward - almost “Hitlerian” - appears to support this behaviour from their border officials who they think are protecting the United States of America from harm. Our border cops are a little more laid back, but not much more so; I’ve heard my share of “horror” stories from liberal and left-leaning Americans when they encounter Canadian Border fellas. Remember the problems Amy Goodman (Democracy Now) had?
I predict that U.S. society will have converted to about 70% hard-right “securitism”, heading towards a sort of tyranny of the majority within five years. Obama would be long gone and replaced by “Palinists”, worse than Margaret Thatcher or her beloved Pinochet could ever be. It might become Fascism, whereby private corporations and “pseudo-Christian” churches would rule through the U.S. Government of the day. Harsh times ahead indeed!! Can we imagine a “Corporate Church of America”, with law-enforcement powers, especially at the border?
